We have been leading sea kayaking tours since 1987 and have built a well-deserved reputation for offering high quality, meticulously crafted kayak tours. We’ve explored the islands with over 100,000 paddlers in the past 30 years, while staying committed to providing personal, small group experiences.Outdoor Odysseys takes particular pride in our mature and professional guides. Every guide is Wilderness First Responder certified and intelligently trained to handle emergency situations both on and off the water. Each guide is equipped with a cell phone, VHF marine radio, and comprehensive first aid kit. Additionally, our groups are small to ensure customer attention on the water and a more personal experience.
Outdoor Odysseys was founded in 1987 by Clark Casebolt. He made a conscious decision to run a relatively small company that concentrates specifically on sea kayaking in the San Juan Islands. Tom Murphy, long time guide and manager, took over the business in 2012, and continues to embrace that concept by delivering exceptional trips with an above-and-beyond commitment to customer service.
Great guides make great trips. We live in an amazing natural playground that is impressive on its own. Our tour guides are the secret to making your kayaking adventure a step above the rest. We highlight the best the San Juan Islands have to offer.Outdoor Odysseys has an exemplary retention of kayak tour guides in a business that has a notoriously high turnover rate. Outdoor Odysseys hires excellent, charismatic naturalists who return to work for us year after year. All of our guides are Wilderness First Responder certified, trained in open-water rescue, and experts at working with beginner paddlers. Their passion for sharing the diverse ecosystem of the Pacific Northwest is rivalled only by their passion for outdoor cuisine. With our guides, you know you’re in great hands for your San Juan Island Kayak Tour.
Sea kayaking is our first priority as a small business. We believe it is the best way to truly enjoy the islands, both in the up-close experience and in consideration of noise pollution for our wildlife. We made a conscious decision to focus on human-powered trips (no motorized whale watch boats, no motor vessel support on tours). We’re not anti-motorboat, rather, we offer the kinds of trips we ourselves would love to take.
